Written and recorded over the past 2 years, Safe Life is about our shared humanity. The opening lines, sung by the powerful poet, singer, and activist, Ursula Rucker, remind us that most of what we all strive for is a safe life. "All we want is a safe life. A life of love and not hate. All they wanted was a safe life." The song was written in response to the ongoing global refugee crisis through the lens of what's happening in the US. "A family side by side, they hurry. Treads worn by hope. Found a town they liked built a home of love." Miles Orion Butler, the lead singer on the track, wrote the bulk of the lyrics after performing with Ursula at a benefit for several immigrant families seeking refuge in a church in Philadelphia. After hearing the stories of these families and being deeply inspired by their journey Miles was frustrated and saddened that anyone could be so hateful as to report these families to ICE. The song is a reminder to live with love and work to see life through another's eyes. To build empathy and hope. Safe Life was produced by Brendan McGeehan and recorded at Retro City Studios.
